The Etang de Jonas is a first category pond of about 20 hectares, about 100 meters from the campsite. Like many ponds in the region, it has a medieval origin and belonged to the monks of Grandmont. The lake is used for fishing (no swimming).

Other fishing sites (ponds/rivers) are also available close to the campsite.

  • Fishing on “Le Parleur” (1st category stream).
  • The Beuvreix, a 15-minute walk from the campsite, is the main stream (other names: Beureix, Beurré, de Jonas), flowing down from Saint-Sylvestre (7 km away) from Les Sauvages. The Beuvreix crosses the commune of Ambazac after the Nouaillas mill, and is known as “le Parleur”, flowing into the Taurion.
  • St Priest Taurion 15 min by car: river fishing on the Taurion, a 2nd category river.
  • La Jonchère St Maurice, 10 minutes by car: fishing on the 1st category communal pond.
  • La Vallée de la Gartempe et du Taurion: two rivers cross here, the Gartempe coming from the Monts de Guéret and the Taurion from the Plateau de Millevaches. The fish-filled waters are well worth a visit. For the past twenty years, the Gartempe has been the focus of a salmon reintroduction program, while the Taurion is renowned for its brown trout, gudgeon, bleak and carnivorous fish.
